THE JAWLINE AND FACIAL ESTHETICS
One of the most important facial features for an attractive look is a well-define jawline. Males desire a strong square jawline and chin. Feminine face is considered more attractive if she has a smooth, soft and round jawline and chin.
At FACE Cosmedical, we offer a non-surgical jawline sculpting solution for men and women of all ages. The procedure involves minimal discomfort and downtime. Jawline contouring can slim your face, improve recessed chin, increase the volume and definition of your chin, reduce the appearance of jowls, balance your facial features and provide more masculine or feminine look without the need for surgery.
WHAT IS INVOLVED IN JAWLINE CONTOURING
Most people think of jawline enhancement and contouring as a complicated and painful surgical procedure that requires broken jaw bone, liposuction or insertion of an implant. Of course, these procedures are possible options if a person wishes more extensive reshaping. For more moderate changes, great results can be achieved without the need for incisions, anesthesia or extended downtime. Non-surgical jawline contouring uses a combination of injectable treatments to achieve more youthful look, reduce the signs of ageing and reshape the chin and jaw to make them look more appealing and attractive. This procedure can improve a number of concerns and can be fully customized for each patient and his or her facial anatomy and goals.
Men and women wish to undergo jawline contouring expecting different outcome. Women mostly show interest in the ability of the procedure to slim their faceor soften a prominent jawline. Men usually want stronger, more chiseled jawline we normally associate with the masculine look. Both men and women equally benefit from the ability of the procedure to reduce some visible signs of ageing. Our injector Rebecca at FACE Cosmedical will customize the procedure having your desires in mind.
THE AGEING JAWLINE
One of the most obvious signs of ageing is a sagging jawline. Most people know how time affects our skin. We see it in the mirror every day. Very few people realize that most of the changes are happening at the deeper structure of the face. As we age, our jaw bone and mid-face slowly diminish, reducing the amount of support holding the soft tissue – fat and skin- in the face. The area next to the chin, called pre-jowl area, narrows as the bone behind the chin recedes or flattens out. This structure loss is the result of the movement of the soft tissue of the face. This change shows as appearance of jowls. The lower jaw or mandible also changes. The angle of the bone below the ear, at the back of the jaw, widens. As a result, we lose the jawline definition and our neck appears aged, with less support to the platysma or muscles of the neck and other soft tissues.
As gravity and the loss of tissue elasticity combine, the result shows as signs of ageing in the jawline. We cannot regrow lost facial bones, but we can use a number of non-surgical jawline contouring procedures exist to address the loss of volume in the face. This procedure can also reshape, shift and rejuvenate several layers of the skin, fat and muscles, resulting in a more youthful look.
WHAT IS INVOLVED IN JAWLINE CONTOURING?
At FACE Cosmedical, Rebecca takes a holistic approach to jawline contouring. Depending on your goals, the procedure may include a combination of injectable procedures and cosmedeutical-grade skin care. Some of the available options are:
DERMAL FILLERS
Dermal fillers are injected deep into the subcutaneous tissue that overlays the jawbone. They volumize and lift the lower face and provide support for it. The added fullness restores youthful appearance by plumping the areas that lost volume. It also lifts drooping areas and smooths away fine lines and wrinkles. Dermal fillers can also be used to improve asymmetry in the lower face, to enhance the chin and to sculpt a more defined jawline. Dermal fillers are fast and almost painless procedure. The results are evident right after the procedure and side effects are negligible.
Dermal fillers are a temporary solution and are completely reversible. The duration of the effects depends on the area where the treatment has been performed, the type of fillers used and the rate at which your body processes them. Several follow-up sessions are necessary in order to maintain achieved result, but the effects of the procedure last many months before they are required.
ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONS
Anti-wrinkle injections are often combined with dermal fillers and together they produce dramatically more sculpted and youthful look. Lines and wrinkles naturally appear on our face as a result of the movement of the facial muscles. Anti-wrinkle injections contain a neurotoxin that inhibits the muscle activity, smoothing existing wrinkles as a result and preventing their future development.
Anti-wrinkle injections are also used to relax and soften too pronounced masseter muscles, also called ‘the chewing muscles’. These muscles can make woman’s jawline look fuller and look masculine, not something any woman wants. These chemicals can also relieve the tension in the jaw and prevent teeth grinding.
Anti-wrinkle injections can also be inserted under the jawline and along the neck in order to tighten platysma or neck muscles. Platysma is a muscle that pulls downward the jawline tissues and the jowls. Relaxing this muscle lifts, tightens and smooths skin in this area. This gravity-defying treatment is also called the Nefertiti Lift, for the beautiful Egyptian queen. Anti-wrinkle injections can also be administered into the chin, in order to relax the metalis muscle, the muscle that pulls the chin up. Relaxing this muscle results in lengthened and better defined chin area.
Just like dermal fillers, anti-wrinkle injections provide only temporary solution. The results of the procedure start to show three to five days after injections and reach their maximal effect within two weeks. Most patients enjoy the benefits of the procedure for about three to four months. After that, they need regular follow-up treatments.
FAT-DISSOLVING INJECTIONS
Patients who are undertaking jawline contouring may also consider adding fat-dissolving injections as part of the treatment. Some fat deposits on the face such as submental fat that creates a double chin, are particularly stubborn and difficult to get rid of even with regular diet and exercise. Fat-dissolving injections use a substance called deoxycholic acid, which occurs naturally in the body, to destroy fat cells under the chin. After that they are eliminated by the body’s lymphatic system. The result is slimmer and more sculpted jawline, with no incisions and scaring.
In most cases, optimal results of the chin sculpting are achieved with two injection treatments, performed four to six weeks apart. For those with more severe symptoms, additional treatments may be required. Once a patient is satisfied with the achieved results, no further treatments are required. Fat cells do not regenerate themselves, they will not reappear ,so the results are permanent, as long as a patient maintains stable weight.
COLLAGEN STIMULATORS
Collagen stimulators can also be used to contour the jawline. As we age and lose collagen and elastin, we see a significant reduction in the skin elasticity. Replenishing the skin molecules on the jawline gives it additional support and structure, resulting in more youthful definition. Collagen stimulators contain a calcium molecule similar to the molecule found in the skin and bones. It breaks down over a few months and stimulates the body’s own production of collagen in the treatment area. Once collagen is placed along the jawline with a device called microcannula, the increased level of collagen provides long-term increase in the skin volume and improved structure and lift to the area.
SKIN CARE AND SKIN TREATMENTS
Good skin improves any results achieved with the treatment of the jawline area. Microneedling and LED therapy both help inducing collagen production, as a result strengthening the skin and providing better skin structure and tightness.
Regular and effective skin care also help addressing signs of ageing, preventing them to an extent. Active ingredients in skin care products such as vitamin A stimulate the skin and encourage production of collagen and elastin. That way they help with reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, improving skin texture, ace and uneven pigmentation.
