WHAT IS MICRODERMABRASION?
Microdermabrasion or microderm is non-invasive, non-surgical procedure of removing surface skin cells, leaving behind a clean, refreshed complexion. There is a special device designed for this procedure, which sands away the superficial layer of the skin. The loosened skin cells and debris are suctioned away. With this process, small skin imperfections are also improved, resulting in a healthy, rejuvenated and radiant looking skin.
The procedure is painless and offers numerous benefits by addressing a number of skin issues, including:
- Uneven skin texture
- Pigmentation irregularities
- Dull complexion
- Fine lines
- Enlarged pores
- Shallow scars from acne or chicken pox
- Signs of acne such as whiteheads or blackheads
Microdermabrasion also increases blood circulation in the skin, resulting in the healthy glow of the skin after the treatment. The procedure produces instant but subtle results that can be further increased with additional subsequent sessions. Combining microdermabrasion with other skin rejuvenation treatments produces even more dramatic results.
ON WHICH AREA CAN MICRODERMABRASION BE PERFORMED?
The most common area targeted for microdermabrasion is face, where the procedure treats signs of ageing, sun damage and other minor skin imperfections. However, the procedure can also be used to rejuvenate the skin on the neck, chest, back and the back of the hands. The results are in most cases excellent. During the initial consultation, our injector Rebecca at Face by Rebecca will talk to you, access the condition of your skin and together with you determine whether microdermabrasion is the right option for you.
WHAT IS INVOLVED IN MICRODERMABRASION?
We routinely perform this procedure in our clinic at Face by Rebecca, and it lasts between half hour and one hour. No anesthetic is involved or necessary. Most patients find mild scratching sensation and vibration of the device used to be completely tolerable. The device is moved across the skin, loosening the skin outer layer of cells and other particles that make skin appear dull and lifeless. After that, using suction, the debris and loose matter is removed and what is left behind is clean, smooth skin.
WHEN CAN I SEE THE RESULTS?
The results of microdermabrasion are visible immediately after the procedure. You will leave our clinic with smoother skin texture and healthy, glowing skin. These results will continue to improve in the following days and weeks, since the procedure stimulates the renewal of skin cells and improved production of collagen. We usually recommend to our patients to undergo a series of microdermabrasion treatments to achieve the best results. Treatments are performed every two to four weeks apart and the number of sessions depends on the amount of correction needed and the goals a patient wants to achieve. Regular maintenance sessions are also required in order to help maintain the new, rejuvenated look for as long as possible.
CAN I RETURN TO MY NORMAL ROUTINE IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE PROCEDURE?
Microdermabrasion does not require any downtime and patients can resume their normal lives immediately after the treatment. It is very unlikely for the skin to show any signs that it has undergone any procedure. All you will see is healthy, radiant complexion and the great look that will boost your confidence.
ARE THERE ANY RISKS INVOLVED IN MICRODERMABRASION?
Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive procedure that has no or very few risks involved. Patients that come for the treatment with open skin lesions or active acne might risk spreading the existing condition after the procedure. For this reason, we prefer not to perform microdermabrasion on patients with this issue until it is cleared.
WHAT OTHER TREATMENTS CAN BE COMBINED WITH MICRODERMABRASION?
One of the most popular treatment combination offered at Face by Rebecca is microdermabrasion and microneedling, a procedure we call Dermafrac. This painless procedure uses a special device to inflect micro-injuries in the skin in order to stimulate body’s natural healing process. Dermafrac also includes injection of special topical serums which restore essential elements in the skin. During the procedure, we can also apply formulations that make skin lighter, protect it from damage or minimize acne breakouts. When these serums are combined with microdermabrasion and microneedling, they can penetrate the deeper layers of the skin, creating much stronger and longer-lasting effects.
Microdermabrasion can also be combined with other injectable treatments that are designed to reduce the fine lines and wrinkles and restore skin’s natural volume. When two procedures are performed at the same time, the results are usually much more dramatic and longer lasting than if each procedure is performed separately.
Microdermabrasion is one of many treatments we offer at Face by Rebecca for the skin rejuvenation and anti-ageing. We offer a comprehensive menu of non-surgical, non-invasive treatments for patients’ esthetic goals.
